Kyle Sandilands is an award-winning Canadian director and cinematographer with experience working around the globe. As a cinematographer, Kyle was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2026 for his work on the feature, Everest Dark, and has contributed and lensed projects for Netflix, HBO, Discovery and CBC respectively. Currently based in Brisbane, Australia, Kyle is a shooter producer on three series for the ABC, Grand Designs Australia, Grand Designs Transformations & Restoration Australia.
Regardless of the medium or format, as filmmakers the goal is always the same: to tell authentic stories that move us and change the way we view the world.

As a director / cinematographer I've been lucky to have worked on some exciting projects around the globe and I'm always searching for compelling stories with strong characters and bold visual opportunities.
Whether it be embedding with an all-Sherpa climbing team to tell the story of the efforts in removing bodies off the mountain for the documentary feature, Everest Dark or working with the Dao and H’mong communties of Northern Vietnam for the CBT Vietnam project, I’ve been privileged to be a part of stories with common threads following ethnic minority groups around the world adapting and maneuvering growing tourism industries.
Whether it’s shooting an investigative documentary overseas following the controversial ‘voluntourism’ movement in lower and middle-income countries, or filming cinema verité with whistleblowers breaking the story on the NXIVM sex-trafficking cult for HBO’s The Vow, I’ve always tried to seek out stories with strong characters, bold visuals, and authenticity and fairness to the subject matter.
The chance to explore the world, meet extraordinary people in front of and behind the camera, and share those compelling stories with others is why I do what I do. It makes the long hours, jet lag, and sleep deprivation worth it.
